Typical spring weather has arrived and our garden (and weeds) have started to florish.
Our second 'batch' of seedlings have their roots coming through the pot walls, so it's planting time again this weekend.
We have been attending some of our local markets selling our products (DEBug is always popular) along with the surplus seedlings we have propagated, with our flowers proving to be a favourite. We are getting great comments and drawing a crowd as people are fascinated with seeing the plants root structure coming through the pot walls. They are also delighted that they do not have to dispose of 'those annoying plastic punnets'. Selling in Fertilpots is a unique point of difference and definitely more eco-friendly.
Happy gardening, Warren & Monique
Upcoming bans in Pesticide use
The NZ Consumer Magazine has recently published an interesting article regarding the upcoming changes in pesticide use for the home gardener. Effective from the 1st July 2015 only people certified as "approved handlers" will be able to apply insecticide products containing Acephate, Carbaryl, Diazinon and Organophosphates. These and many other chemicals such as Rotenone have already been banned in the EU and US for several years. Read the article here.
This Months Special
With long dry summer spells on the horizon and those pesty weeds in full growth, now is the ideal time to provide a nice insulating and protective wool mat around your precious fruit trees, shrubs and to help establish young plants.
Our Mulch & Weed Mats are made from 100% New Zealand Recycled Sheeps Wool. They have a 400gsm thickness and are needled punched for strength and durability. They help to suppress weeds and retain vital soil moisture by reducing evaporation. As they slowly biodegrade (over approx. 18 months), they release natural organic nutrients such as nitrogen, potassium, sulphur and other trace elements. Biodegradable ground pegs also available.

November is the ideal time to start propagating and planting your tomatoes. There are many different varities of seeds to choose from and most will geminate in around 10 days. Fill your Fertilpot with a good quality seed-raising mix, place seed and cover lightly with more mix. Leave in a warm sheltered spot. Depending on the sizeof pot used (we recommend 8cm or 10cm), these should be good to plant out as soon as the roots show through. Leave plants 50cm apart and stake well. If planting into a container, make sure to spread SlugGone around the base or use a Wool BioMat.
Thanks for the feedback
We would like to share the comments and helpful hints from an email we received from a customer who purchased our DEBug for a bedbug problem...
"Hi, just want to let you know that I had a problem with bedbugs but after weeks of sleepless nights I used your DEbug product and within two weeks the bites stopped. Before I was being bitten every few nights. I was highly skeptical at first because I've heard how hard it is to get rid of a bedbug infestation but I guess I got lucky and took action early. I don't think I had a major infestation because I inspected the mattress and base but there were no signs of the little buggers anywhere.
I was determined to win the war against these sneaky little bastards. I read that the majority of bedbugs live in the box springs/mattress base so I found some holes where the headboard screws go and puffed some dust inside the base then I lightly dusted the carpet surrounding my bed and the sides of the mattress as well as the edges of the walls. I also dusted the areas in the lounge where I sit. I guess the bedbugs have bitten the dust so to speak! I would recommend your product to anyone with a early bedbug problem, thanks now I can sleep again!"
We are pleased DE did the trick and impressed by your comments, a little gift is coming your way.
We are still looking for retailers through-out the country to stock our range of Fertilpots, Peat Pellets, DEBug Diatomaceous Earth, Slug Gone Wool Pellets, Wool BioMats, etc. So if you have a local garden centre looking for some unique new products, please do not hesitate to contact us so that we can get in touch.
A big welcome to the two local Palmers Garden Stores in Tauranga, who have been selling out of SlugGone...
